4 Frugal Watch Alternatives

A lot of people enjoy watches. It would be best if you were, for one. And if you are, there are chances that you have a grail watch in mind. This grail watch is financially unattainable, but maybe one day.

Say you want to spend that kind of money one day, then you should be smart about going about it. Your best bet is to choose a classic watch that has withstood the test of time and spanned generations. However, those grail watches are up in the stratosphere.

However, some options are attainable and for less money than you imagine. In this article, we have listed some iconic watches and frugal alternatives that can give you a taste of watchmaking excellence.

With our choices, you will not go in the wrong direction!

Seiko Men’s SUP880

The Cartier Tank was introduced in 1918, inspired by Renault tanks Louis Cartier saw on the Western Front during the peak of World War I. The watch is mechanical – meaning a hand-wound mainspring powers it. The mainspring allows the second hand to move in a smooth, sweeping motion around the watch’s face. Famous men such as the likes of Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, and John F. Kennedy have worn this watch. It has also become a classic dress watch.

Seiko, on the other hand, has an affordable dress watch that it has put out in the form of the Seiko Men’s SUP880. The Tank’s long rectangle shape can be found in the body of the SUP880. Seiko is quartz-powered, using up power from electricity and batter. It causes the second hand to make a tick-tock sound and move in a jerkier motion. For one, this is worth your money because it is more affordable and durable than the mechanical one!

Timex Ameritus

Omega Speedmaster is one of those classic watches. Specifically, it is a pilot’s watch used by Gemini and Apollo astronauts during the 1950s and 1960s. Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong wore the watch, making it the first on the moon, during their famous feat on the lunar surface. If you want that watch, then look out: you have to spend between $3,000 and $5,000.

The Timex Ameritus is a worthy alternative, but this one is the most original homage. Like the Omega Speedmaster, it has a chronograph and tachymeter, but it also has a quartz movement that can last a long time. With $60, though, we’re not complaining!

Citizen NJ0100

The Citizen NJ0100 has a similar design to the Rolex Air-King, a stainless steel flat three-link bracelet, and automatic movement! It allows for both manual and automatic winding. It also has a mineral glass known for its impact resistance and an iconic blue dial. The latter is superimposed with a white index outline.

It is a good alternative and can also last long.

Seiko Men’s SKX007K Diver’s Automatic Watch

The earlier 007s were the kind of men who loved their Rolex Submariners. However, Pierce Brosnan introduced a different kind of 007. His James Bond loved his Omega Seamaster – a dive watch spotty well-heeled men enjoy. At its high price tag, however, most average Joes find it far up into the stratosphere.

We offer the Seiko Men’s SKX007K Diver’s Automatic Watch with its similar feel and look to the Omega. At only $200, it has mechanical movement and is water resistant up to 660 feet!
